With hearts weighed down by sorrow and spirits overwhelmed by grief, Queen Arwa University deeply mourns the loss of its esteemed founder and Chairperson of the Board of Trustees, Professor Dr. Waheeba Ghaleb Fare'e Al-Faqih, who passed away today after a lifetime filled with remarkable contributions and achievements in the fields of science and humanity. She was a pioneer in education and human rights, leaving behind an enduring legacy that will remain a beacon for future generations and a testament to her extraordinary journey—not only as a scholar but also as a devoted servant to humanity and society.
A Visionary Leader
Dr. Waheeba Fare’e, an icon of feminist and scientific leadership, was the first Yemeni woman to serve as Minister of Human Rights in Yemen in 2001 and the first female president of a private university in the country. She was not merely a leader but a symbol of generosity and selflessness. In 1996, she founded Queen Arwa University to serve as a beacon of knowledge and hope and as a sanctuary for those striving for education and progress.
An Inspiring Journey
Dr. Waheeba began her remarkable journey by earning her Ph.D. in Education from Ain Shams University in 1987. She dedicated her life to the pursuit of knowledge and enlightenment, serving as a professor at Sana’a University and holding prestigious positions such as Dean of the National Institute for Administrative Sciences and President of the Forum for Dialogue and Development. Her insightful writings and research, which addressed critical issues like education, women, and development, enriched the Arab library and established her as a powerful voice for awareness and enlightenment.
A Symbol of Legacy and Inspiration
Dr. Waheeba was not just a leader but a symbol of commitment and responsibility. She inspired all who knew her with a spirit of resilience and determination. She contributed to the establishment of educational and research institutions, bravely advocated for human rights, and turned what once seemed impossible into tangible realities through science and hard work—fulfilling the mission that defined her life.
Condolences and Sympathies
With her passing, Yemen has lost one of its greatest academic, scientific, and humanitarian icons, leaving behind a void that is difficult to fill. Queen Arwa University extends its heartfelt condolences to her family, represented by her husband, the honorable General Ali Mohammed Hashem Aoun, her son, Dr. Ghassan Ali Hashem, Vice President and Secretary-General of the University, as well as her children, relatives, friends, and all who benefited from her knowledge and were inspired by her character.
We pray to Allah to have mercy on her soul, forgive her, reward her abundantly for her knowledge and deeds, and grant us all patience in this profound loss.
